Gerald Marleaux

Marleaux Bassguitars, Clausthal-Zellerfeld

Gerald Marleaux builds world class basses. Gerald won the „Best Bass Gear of the Show“ award at the Namm Show in Anaheim, California in 2014, 2016 and 2018. And Gerald has created the Regio Tone Wood concept, a long overdue concept that relies on local woods in instrument making. The man from Clausthal-Zellerfeld, however, is an incredibly nice and open minded person, besides these impressive facts that make a world class bass builder. I immediately had a friendly relationship with Gerald and found exactly the common wavelength that I see as an important part of the concept of Fendt´s Finest. That’s why Gerald was one of the first bass builders together with Jens Ritter, to whom I told about the idea of my own bass shop.

Marleaux Bassguitars is a company that has been constantly developing since the „golden age“ of German bass building in the late eighties to the mid nineties, and has been one of the world’s top bass builders for quite some time. In the last few years I have always met Gerald at the „Luthiers Round Table“ organized by Bass Gear Magazine on the occasion of the Namm. Once he told me that he felt very honored to always be invited to these meetings. I know that the American bass builders have great respect for Gerald and everyone knows the name Marleaux. A true knight of the Round Table.

A Knight of the Round Table

No bass combines the traditional and the modern as well as the Marleaux Contra through its appearance and sound. Airy upright bass notes and modern, crisp sounds are perfectly reproduced by the Contra at the highest level. Gerald Marleaux combines classical building techniques with modern ergonomics. Playability and playing comfort are enhanced by the shaping of the neck and the deep cutaway, you feel at home immediately. It is difficult to describe this instrument dignified and in all details – come by and test it!
Whether you are a filigree bass player or a passionate collector, you can expect more than an absolute dream bass.

The Tiuz is one of the „younger“ bass models by Gerald Marleaux. However, a young instrument always benefits from the experience made with its forerunner models. When Gerald showed me the Tiuz for the first time, it was immediately clear that this bass had everything to become a success. It has a powerful tone that gets to the point but doesn’t lack warmth. The new Marleaux pickups combined with the also new 4-band Eq BC4 fit perfectly to the Tius and raise the bass to a higher level. The bass becomes unbelievably variable without appearing bent. This is where the experience of the predecessor models comes into play. The Tiuz is perfect. In the end, the Regio Tone Wood concept is used in most cases. Mostly maple from the Lower Saxony region, birch, alder, ash, chestnut, lime or walnut are used.

Why wander far away?
