Ellis Hahn from Portland, Oregon, is the new star among American bass builders. This sentence is only partially true, however, because Ellis has been working in Roger Sadowsky’s workshop since 2006 and over the years he become his right-hand man and one of the most internationally talented bass builders. For most guitar builders, though, having their „own baby“ is something that should not be underestimated. So over the years at Ellis, the idea of the Offset Bass, Ellis‘ first bass model, has grown and in 2018 the first model has finally been completed. Having worked at the top level for many years, Ellis knows exactly what matters in a premium instrument and how perfect an instrument needs to be to meet the highest standards.
The next Generation
The Offset is Ellis‘ first bass with which he introduces himself to the bass world. After playing the bass for the first time, you immediately notice how much experience was „built into“ the bass. No matter what it is, the electronics, the neck construction, everything makes sense. You feel that this bass isn’t a quick shot, on the contrary, Ellis has planned a long time and the result is fantastic. The result is a bass that can be played very smoothly, it has a powerful tone with long sustain, almost as if it had been played for years. The whole thing is produced by the instrument, which was built in chambering construction, without any dead spot.Respectable is also Ellis‘ mix of traditional and new elements, which is a step in a new dimension.
The Offset is a bass that leaves the classic boutique paths and clearly stands out due to its powerful but harmonic construction.
