The fact that you don’t necessarily have to look far to find outstanding, handmade instruments is proven by a young bass builder from Osterhofen in Lower Bavaria. Florian Hertzsch, owner and builder of the company ULRICH BassDesign combined in one person, has oriented himself to traditional values in the designs for his bass models and has been inspired by famous masters such as Antonio de Torres.
In combination with his experience as a certified master for violin and string instruments, Florian has created instruments that hold a position of their own in the bass world. Due to the fact that Florian learned violin making from scratch, his approach is largely uninfluenced compared to other bass manufacturers. As a connoisseur of the other instrument world, he thus receives inspirations that remain hidden to many and which now manifest themselves in his bass creations.
Florian skillfully implements these ideas in his basses with the precision of a master luthier.
A unique feature of his basses is without a doubt the headstock, which catapults a 200-year-old construction method back into modern times. Florian’s instruments are completely handmade, CNC machines are not used.
Since Florian has been a passionate bass player since his earliest youth, the leap from violin to bass manufacturing was only a matter of time and has now given us another star among German bass builders.
At Fendt’s Finest we present 2 models from the Saulus series that reflect Florian’s work in an impressive way.
